Our client in the NGO sector is looking to fill the position of a Finance Manager who will be responsible for financial management at the Kenya office operations as well as lead the development, implementation, and overseeing of overarching sales and business development strategies, sales processes, and structure.

 

Key Responsibilities

Ensure smooth and timely undertake month-end and year-end procedures, annual budgeting, and reporting.

Maintain all financial systems identifying areas that require improvements and  implementing necessary changes to support smooth programs implementation.

Responsible for financial management at the Kenya office operation.

Ensure robust financial systems that are compliant and support current activities and  future financial growth of the Kenya office are in place.

Provide leadership to the team of finance officers through couching and mentorship by cultivating a high sense of integrity, responsibility, diligence, honesty, teamwork and observing the same at a personal level.

Work closely with Snr Director of Finance and US Operations, the Chief Finance Officer, Chief Programs Officer, and Grants Manager to register all existing grants and new ones and monitor burn rates within Kenya operation and other requirements as stipulated in the various LOAs. 

Work closely with Chief Programs Officer and Grants Manager to ensure quality and timely submission of all donor finance reports.

Responsible for monthly monitoring of expenses by grant and by programs and adjusting accordingly to ensure expenditure is within the grant budgeted amounts whilst ensuring where required prior approval is obtained for any re-allocation between budget lines.

Work closely with the CFO, programs teams, and the US office business development team to prepare proposal budgets for funding opportunities being pursued by the organization.

Work closely with the CEO and Chief Programs Officer in ensuring timely annual program planning and budgeting processes, review, and approvals by the Kenya Board of Directors.

Prepare monthly management accounts for review and approval by the CEO and CFO and submit the same to Head Office.

Prepare quarterly finance board papers for CFO’s review and approval.

Responsible for continuous monitoring of annual organizational budget and preparing and disseminating to respective managers the budget to actual variance analyses.

Responsible for continuous cash flow position monitoring and preparation of quarterly  cash requests for submission to head office.

In conjunction with the CFO, support in review of the Kenya Finance Manual as deemed necessary to align emerging best practices.

Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.

Ensure timely closure of books of account and preparation of schedules for annual statutory organizational audit.

Manage the annual external audit process by liaising with the auditors to ensure alldocuments and other requirements for smooth audit processes are in place.

Support the annual US office audit process by liaising with the US office auditors to provide documents and other information requested.

Ensure timely follow-through in implementation of audit management letter recommendations.

Perform any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time by your supervisor.

 

Key Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field is required.

5-10 years of experience managing finances and accounting preferably in the Non Governmental Organization sector.

Holder of CPA-K with good standing with ICPAK. 

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a diverse group of stakeholders

Experience with international programs, reporting compliance, and understanding of budgets and non-profit finances especially government funders like US State Department strongly desired.

Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.

Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and principles as relevant to nonprofit entities receiving government funding from the US.

Managerial skills with the ability to delegate, coach, and motivate team members

Proficient in the use of MS Office and ERP systems

Demonstrated understanding of how to manage and maintain program budgets.

Able to effectively address overlapping projects, deadlines, and budgets.

Adaptable and reliable in the face of crisis or changing priorities.

Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.

High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientated.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with other staff members.
